Years ago our sanitation workers saw bikes going into the landfill that had something simple not working on it - a broken chain, a flat tire, a loose brake line or worse yet - a child that had outgrown a perfectly nice bike. They hated to see the waste and brought the bikes back to our maintenance yard for fixing and giving back out to neighborhood children in need. Flash forward over 10 years and now the city collects over 300 bikes per year from a number of sources. Volunteers donate their time to fix up the bikes and return them to people in need all over the city.
